The cast of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. rang in the new year with a celebratory balloon drop… but it didn’t go quite as planned.
Not only is this a fun video, it gives a sense of how far the series has come. When Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. launched in 2013, Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson was the star. Now, he essentially shares that position with Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson. Notice that the intro here is shared between the two actors, signifying Bennet’s rise as the series has progressed.

Season 5 of the show has launched the team on a new cosmic journey, one that has taken them to a dystopian future timeline. They’re stranded on a future in which the Earth was shattered, apparently by the powers of Daisy Johnson herself. The last episode saw Fitz join them in this disastrous future, and his mission is to somehow save both his friends and the world itself.
This season started later than usual which puts the ending right before Avengers: Infinity War hits theatres. Fans continue to speculate that season 5 will tie into the movie.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 Might Premiere Mid-November
On early Sunday, ABC Chief Channing Dungey was asked about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s premiere date, and the answer surprised many fans who thought the show wasn’t coming back until January 2018.
“It’s going to come on right after Inhumans, as soon as the eight episodes of Inhumans is done, then S.H.I.E.L.D. will begin,” Dungery said during the Television Critics Association press tour.
Now, Inhumans is set to show its first two episodes on IMAX theatres on September 1, and later premiere on ABC on September 29, which means the season could end on November 10 if there are no breaks. Therefore, the fifth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could very well premiere as early as November 17.
However, according to Comic Book Movie, it’s more likely that ABC will actually stick to that January 2018 date, so the show can run uninterruptedly.
