REVIEW: How to Get Away with Murder, Episode 406
How to Get Away with Murder is once again back, this time with episode 6 of season 4 entitled “Stay Strong Mama”. In it, we finally found out why Jorge Castillo killed Wes.
In a surprising turn, Laurel’s father showed up at Michaela’s new company, and organized a surprise meeting with the main attorneys, Tegan included. The writers decided to keep us in the dark for a little while longer, and we only found out what he was up to when he and Laurel gathered to have lunch. Jorge is preparing everything to make Antares Technologies go public. When this happens, he will make an amount of money which will be so big that the word “huge” does not begin to cover. When Wes threatened to reveal everything about Annalise, D.A. Denver and Jorge Castillo teamed up to shut him up, and maintain their public imagine, since Laurel would go down with everyone. But of course that knowing it and proving it are two very different things, and Michaela doesn’t seem to be very eager to put Tegan’s job on the line to help her friend.
Like I predicted in my last review, Asher is fully back, and demanding explanations. Unfortunately, Michaela continued lying to him, which led to Asher take matters into his own hands and plant a camera in Laurel’s apartment. By the end of the episode, Asher left Michaela in what was definitely a hard scene to watch. Of course, this is pretty much what Michaela was asking for when she started lying to her boyfriend. Sure they wanted to protect him, but they just made it worse. Also, Asher can totally look after himself, and I am sure he would be more than happy to help them, since this is about Wes.
In the meantime, and like we saw in the end of last episode, Annalise and Connor started a partnership, and a great one as it was expected. Once again, the D.A.’s office went a little bit over the edge, trying to take the home of Claudia’s mother and children, only because she signed the class action lawsuit. The two new partners spent the episode finding a way to force a judge to make the D.A.’s office back up, and fortunately, they succeeded, by making Claudia’s son go on TV and tell everyone what was happening. That was such a great scene: the speech the kid gave was really beautiful, and we even got to see everyone’s reaction while they were watching it. Hopefully this win will make more people want to sign Annalise’s petition, giving her again the number she needs to start actually doing something. Yes, that’s right, because unlike some people said during the episode, Annalise is the perfect person to do this.
While all this is going on, Isaac starts to question his ability to be impartial around Annalise, adding to the fact that, like he said in a previous episode, she might be triggering some dark demons inside him. Like Annalise, Isaac too lost his child. Even though he had the chance to be around her a lot more than Annalise was able to be around her child, that doesn’t make it hurt any less. Hearing Annalise talk about it seems to be awakening his wishes to hurt himself, and his ex-wife says he needs to step out of it. Nevertheless, Isaac continued to be her therapist for the episode, and this is really starting to make more and more progress. I loved that scene in which Annalise says that everyone counts on her, but she can’t please anyone, because she can’t be strong all the time. Of course, she always tries her best, but even the court badass needs to feel vulnerable and weak sometimes, so she can thrive and win on all the other occasions.
In flash forwards, we managed to see a glimpse of Annalise in the shower, washing up blood, which means that, as usual, she is somehow involved in all this craziness that is going be happening. These events are starting to be closer and closer, so eventually all this will make sense.
Overall, and as usual, this was a great episode. I loved most of Annalise’s scenes, and now we finally know the reason why Wes was murdered, putting everyone one step closer to exposing Jorge. I am giving this one an 8.8/10.
Next episode is entitled “Nobody Roots for Goliath” and in it Annalise will gain an unlikely ally for her class action law suit. Keep in mind that this next episode is the last one before the winter finale, so things promise to get heated.

REVIEW: How to Get Away with Murder, Episode 405
How to Get Away with Murder continues this new season with its fifth episode, entitled “I Love Her” and it focused on the relationship between Bonnie and Annalise.
Not all episodes of this show have flashbacks, but when they make them, they are usually great, and this time was no different. We saw how Annalise met Bonnie, and it really was in surprising circumstances. Who would have guessed they were “enemies” before all of this? Annalise eventually found herself in a hard situation, not knowing if she should keep working for her jerk and totally guilty client and have a great future ahead of her (professionally anyway), or drop him and do the right thing. I don’t think it was much of a surprise at all that she fired herself and went to help Bonnie, but it was still nice to watch them start bonding. It was even better to know that Annalise was the one who convinced her newest friend to become a lawyer. Who knew that two women who found themselves in opposite sides of the same game would become good friends and mold each other’s lives, right?
Even though they really are friends, as I just said, that is definitely not what it looked like for most of the episode, because they found themselves in the opposite sides of the same game again. Annalise continued to work in her class law suit, by starting to gather signatures from some of Virginia’s old cases. She pretty much gave the same speech to all of them, but because it was working, why would she change it? She even made some new friends out of old enemies, and close to the end of the episode she got all 40 signatures she needed. Even though it didn’t last long, it was still amazing seeing her happy, because that hasn’t happened in a while.
While Annalise was working on her signatures, Bonnie was trying to find out a way to end her class action suit. She didn’t get many luck in the beginning, but she eventually found something which helped her, and started offering Annalise’s new cases a better deal, making them withdraw from Annalise’s side.
In flash forwards, we also saw Bonnie with Isaac, and these were really some great scenes. Hopefully, that will make Bonnie change her mind. I am not saying she needs to help her friend, since they have very different jobs now, but she should at least stop trying to ruin it. But it was still so satisfying for some reason seeing Bonnie say “I love her” repeatedly, because we all know that is what they feel for each other (especially after the flashbacks of this episode) even though they never admit it. This scene was yet another proof that the cast of this show is really fantastic. Always has been, always will be.
At the same time, Connor was definitely feeling down, probably still thinking about what his father told him in the previous episode, and he almost cheated on Oliver. I am very glad this didn’t happen, of course. I think Connor obviously loves Oliver very much, he simply has been feeling down lately, with dropping school and all that. But happily, instead of going to this other random guy, Connor went Annalise’s hotel room. This was after she felt the loss of a lot of signatures, so she wasn’t very happy either. In a really great moment, Annalise invited Connor to join her in the law suit. I was really happy when this happened, not only because we will get to see Annalise work with one of the Keating 4 again, but also because this may be exactly what Connor needs to get back on track: a motivating job to do.
In the meantime, Michaela and Oliver continued their mission to search in Tegan’s files for something on Laurel’s father. It took them some effort to find something, but not too much. After all, this is Oliver we are talking about. They did find something very interesting, which they will certainly use. What I didn’t like about this was that Michaela has been lying to Asher. Before the episode ended, I was not very happy with how they have been sidelining him since pretty much since the beginning of this new season, but now I think we will start seeing a lot more of him. This because he found out Michaela is up to something. I bet he will think about everything except for the actual truth, but that still means he will be back. Another thing that made me realize this was the very last second of the episode, when we found out, through flash forwards, how he is the suspect in whatever happened at Michaela’s new firm.
This was, as always, a great episode. I really liked the Bonnie/Annalise connection scenes, and it was even greater they made it stronger and still not put the two of them in a lot scenes together. The new mystery is getting very weird and also very close, so I really can’t wait to watch more. I am giving this episode an 8.6/10.
Next episode is entitled “Stay Strong Mam”, and in it we will finally know a few things more about Isaac’s past, so stay tuned.
REVIEW: How to Get Away with Murder , Episode 404
How to Get Away with Murder is once again back, this time with the fourth episode of the fourth season entitled “Was She Ever Good at Her Job?”, and for that question, I can only find one answer: “She still is, people”.
The episode kicked off with Annalise starting to prepare for her class action suit, when she realized she needed one thing (we all do actually): money. Since her bank account has definitely seen better days, she got to the conclusion she really needed to find a job. That was when she went to Soraya Hargrove to pretty much beg for one. I have to say that I really didn’t expect her lawyer to be Tegan, but it was definitely great seeing Annalise and Michaela in the same room again, and even better to see the looks on their faces when they saw each other. This team is definitely one of the best teams on the show already. I knew since the previous episode that Tegan really was a badass in court, so when a badass joins two more of their kind, everyone else can do nothing but to get out of the way.
And get out of the way was really something Hargrove’s husband should have done. Bad luck for him. The new badass team couldn’t really accuse him of being unfaithful during the marriage, but they found a few financial frauds he committed, and that was enough to shut him up. Hargrove offered him a few money to keep him quiet, and they now share custody of the children. To make things even better, Annalise earned some money, which allowed her to take another step on the class action suit. I am really looking forward to seeing how far this will go. Hope it is far enough to make a few changes. I know this is fiction and it won’t actually change anything in the real world, but maybe making us see she did it, could make us feel like we can too.
Meanwhile, Laurel started working in the DA’s office, and Denver was definitely not happy about it, but I really loved how quickly Bonnie made him shut up. Laurel started doing a little digging and found out that Denver and her father are still involved in some dark businesses. Her father is sponsoring his campaign for attorney general, but through a dead guy who used to work for him. Of course it doesn’t help knowing that guy disappeared under mysterious circumstances. There is definitely something very weird happening there, and with Michaela’s help, they will definitely take him down in an instant.
In the aftermath of last episode, Connor had to deal with his dad. Connor mentioned many times he was just there for the money, but I didn’t really see why Connor disapproves of him so much. That was of course until his dad started saying that Oliver isn’t the guy for him. This is definitely one of the most stupid statements made on this show. How dare he say that? He met Oliver for 5 minutes, and he just says something like that? If Connor thought he could do better, he wouldn’t be in that stage of the relationship. That is because neither Connor nor Oliver can find a better match, because they are perfect for each other. They complete each other. As I said, if I didn’t know why Connor hates his dad, I definitely found out near the end of the episode and I am totally joining the club.
At the same time, Bonnie also started digging into Virginia’s cases, to try to get one step ahead of Annalise. She really is taking this very seriously. So seriously, that she started scheduling appointments in Isaac’s office. There is a line that, after crossed, is considered to be going too far, and that was the line Bonnie crossed in this episode. But speaking of Isaac, he really is acting more and more weird, because he said that maybe it is better for him that Annalisa doesn’t talk about Wes. I think this might actually have a reasonable explanation. Maybe he was once in a similar situation and is still struggling in a way. Anyway, I hope we find out soon enough.
In flash forwards, things definitely got bloodier, and Oliver was a witness of another crime/accident (probably the first though). Maybe because that was in Tegan’s firm, I think she will be the casualty, which would be a shame, but definitely better than another member of the Keating 4, like last season.
Overall this was another great episode. It continued the kick ass ladies, Laurel is one step closer to exposing her dad and Asher is still being Asher, and doing nothing. I am giving it an 8.7/10.
Next episode will air next week, and it has as a tittle “I Love Her”. Prepare to be shocked, because apparently there will be a major breakthrough in the flash forwards, so you really can’t miss it.
REVIEW: How to Get Away with Murder, Episode 403
How to Get Away with Murder is once again back with this third episode of the season entitled “It’s for the Greater Good” and things really continued to get very interesting in it.
After winning Jasmine’s case, Annalise decided to continue working for free, this time for the government’s defense team, getting some cases from the very busy lawyers. This week featured an old case about Ben Carter, a man who was accused of murdering his wife, while he says she killed herself. What I am liking more about this new season is that it feels very real. Twelve years earlier, Ben was sent to jail mostly because of his appearance: he had tattoos all over his body. This can’t really be called racism, but it actually isn’t very far from it, because people think those with tattoos must be murderous or bank robbers. The point is, this is still a today thing, and that is what I loved most about it.
But this really wasn’t the only real problem in the episode. Annalise did win the case, but by doing so, she “exposed” the fact that, because the lawyers there are always very overwhelmed, a huge piece of evidence was overlooked: a tape of Ben’s wife clearly jumping to her death. There is really no need to say if this was found 12 years before, Ben would have never gone to jail. But of course, his lawyer at the time, Virginia, didn’t have time to review all the tapes, therefore he was sent to prison. At first, I didn’t understand Annalise’s need to expose Virginia in court, but I was glad this allowed her to prosecute the justice department. I think everyone can related to this, because we all know, not just lawyers, but most people who work for the government, have always many work to do and are very underpaid. Sure, it was mean what Annalise did this, and maybe this will get nowhere, but it was still a necessary thing to do. Like the tittle of the episode says, it was for the greater good.
In kind of a side note, I was really upset to see what happened to Jasmine. I guess Annalise was right, and drug addicts don’t change. I really thought she would put the past behind her and start living a new life. So much for nothing.
Speaking of terrible life choices, Connor decided to drop out of law school and pass most of the episode spending the money he got back. I really do pity him because he is definitely a brilliant guy, he simply doesn’t often realize it. Sure, he didn’t get any internships last episode, but like I said on my previous review, he really didn’t put much work into it, at all. He has been a little lost during this new season, and I really hope he finds his way back. Apparently, his dads are in town, so hopefully they will put some sense into him. I do understand what he meant about people needing to support his life choices, and I agree, but not when people make silly mistakes like this one. He clearly loves law school, so why is he walking away?
After starting to settle in, in her new company, a game between interns started for Michaela. As usual, she nailed it, and I was so glad to see her beat Simon Drake. He is such a jerk and really pisses me off every time he shows up. It was definitely very satisfying seeing Michaela put him in his place. I also liked her lawyer choice. I think the two of them will do great work together.
Laurel in the other hand, after letting her internship fly away, started looking for another one, and since no one would take her, she tried to convince Bonnie to do it. When she didn’t agree, she convinced Frank to convince her. I am glad she got this now, because life really hasn’t been fair to her, and she needs something to take her mind of things.
In flashforwards, things continue very confusing. We saw Michaela in a nursery asking “is he dead?” to Annalise’s therapist. Since we found out Laurel’s baby is a boy, maybe she was worried about him? Or maybe this is what they want us to think. I really am looking forward to finding out more about this. How to Get Away with Murder really does know how to make a person eager to watch the next episode.
Overall, this was another great episode. As I said already, it felt very modern and grounded. I really hope this season at least remains this good. I am giving this episode an 8.9/10.
Next episode is entitled “Was She Ever Good at Her Job?” and it will air next Thursday, so don’t miss it.

REVIEW: How to Get Away with Murder, Episode 402
How to Get Away with Murder returns for the second episode of this new season entitled “I’m Not Her” and this definitely felt like the show is back on track.
For some time now, this show, like all shows really, made a detour to what it was its first season, its origins, to put it differently. There were episodes that simply focused on the main story, and that is fine, but this one really seemed to bring Annalise back. Now that she is able to practice again, “The Queen” found her first case in Jasmine Bromelle. It was really great that it wasn’t some random stranger, but a woman we saw before. We didn’t know why she was in prison (at least if it was revealed, I don’t remember), but now we do: she was found with an illegal gun. Of course, the police didn’t really have an excuse for searching her, except for the fact that she is black, but that is a fact for a totally different conversation.
Later in the episode we found out this really wasn’t the only time she was wronged. When she was 13 she was caught by the police for prostitution, and the judge thought he was being fair simply by sealing the charges, when he did so much more for white girls in very similar circumstances. Sure it was different times, but he was a racist then and probably still is, so he would have continued to do the same thing if he wasn’t retired already. That speech Annalise gave in the end was so beautiful and true. I am glad the judge decided to do right by Jasmine and sealed all her records. The only thing I didn’t really like in this arc was the fact Annalise seemed to be almost sure Jasmine would later end up in the same situation. Of course it isn’t impossible, but people really do change and having hope she will have a good life and live the Happy Beginning the court gave her in a good and honest way, is definitely a nice way to think. I really believe everything will work out for her (call me an optimistic, but I can’t help it).
In a parallel arc, the Keating 4 had meetings with many law firms to try to find another job. Sure the firms were really looking for interns, but they accepted the 4, not because of their amazing skills (even though that is something they do have), but to know what it is like working for Annalise. Michaela really nailed the interviews, even in the questions which were supposed to take her down a bit. She was called back to 3 of the firms and managed to get a job. Asher was also called back, but he didn’t have Michaela’s luck and charm to take it to the end. Connor was the only one who didn’t get any call backs, but let’s be honest and say he didn’t really try that hard to get a job. Laurel is a whole new story. She is still very broken about Wes’ death and she doesn’t know what she wants anymore. She didn’t put a lot of effort in it, but she get one call back, which she didn’t show up to.
It was still really sad to hear that Laurel blames Connor for Wes’ death. This is so unfair to me, that I can’t even begin to describe it. Connor was trying to save his life the best way he could. He didn’t really know what he was doing, and it went the wrong way, but his intentions were good. I understand Laurel wants to blame someone, but she knows her father ordered Wes killed, so just blame him. Speaking of which, I am glad Laurel finally told someone (Michaela) the truth about her father. It seems now that the two will work together to bring him down, and I really am looking forward to that.
In another storyline, Bonnie and Nate started working together. At first Nate thought that was all a scheme Annalise put Bonnie through, and that they were still working together, but in the end, he realized the truth. I must say that I kind of liked seeing them together. I think Bonnie is still with Frank, but I like her more with Nate, even though this is a very recent thing.
In the most How to Get Away with Murder style, we found out someone died. No one talked about a body, but from what we saw in the elevator (at least I think that was an elevator), it sure looked that way. Also, they made it seem like Annalise had something to do with Laurel being drugged. Not sure how that is going to turn out, but I hope it isn’t true.
This was really an amazing episode. As I said, it really took me back to the origins and I loved it. Last episode was great, but this was greater, so I am giving it a 9.1/10.
Next episode will air next week, at the same time and on the same day and it is entitled “It’s for the Greater Good”, so don’t miss it, along with my review.
REVIEW: How to Get Away with Murder, Episode 401
How to Get Away with Murder is finally back with this season four premiere entitled “I’m Going Away”, an episode which focused a lot on the relationship between Annalise and Ophelia.
Close to the beginning of the episode, Annalise went to her mother’s house for a visit, and I have to say the scenes with the two were great. Both of these actresses are brilliant and they do an amazing job with these characters. Like usually, the scenes with the two were very heartfelt and incredible to watch. It was even funny seeing that, even though she is the one who was mentally ill, Ophelia is still the person who brings balance to the family when things start to heat up. The family started to consider taking her to a Memory Care Center, or at least Annalise and Celestine did, since their dad said he could take care of her alone. At first, Ophelia didn’t like the idea very much, but she later realized it was really for her safety and other people’s.
Even though it seemed like the best thing to do, we realized where Annalise got her stubbornness from: her father. Mac really didn’t like the idea of having his wife away, so in the end, Ophelia continued to live at her old house with him. I really hope none of them live to regret this. Annalise’s mother really needs treatment, and I think it is obvious she won’t have that in her house (or at least never enough to get better). One day she really can end up hurting someone, herself included.
On a related note, it was really not fair for Mac to blame Ophelia’s dementia on Annalise. We are not sure if she is the one causing the “visions”, maybe she is, maybe she isn’t, but if she is, then that is not her fault. Mac really went over the line there. Should Annalise stop visiting her mother just for her not to relive things? What she needs is treatment, and not people who simply ignore her problems or blame them on someone/something else.
Moving on from Annalise (at least for now), Laurel’s father is in town, and I was really surprised they just dropped the abortion bomb like that. Laurel told her father she didn’t keep the baby, like this was the most natural thing in the world. But later in the episode we found out Laurel did not abort, and she really intends on keeping the baby. This was really a relief. Another relief was realizing Laurel knows her father ordered Wes killed. I was wondering throughout the episode when they were going to find this out, but Laurel already did. We don’t know how, yet, and I don’t think no one else knows about it, but the important thing is that she knows, and I am sure she has a plan to make this secret come to light. Maybe she even already started that plan by telling her father she did the abortion.
On happier news (even though it probably didn’t felt like happy news for some people), Connor denied Oliver’s marriage proposal. As I said, this may not sound like happy news for everyone, but it did feel kind of right. Connor does want to get married, and to have children and pets, as he said, but from what I understood, he wants to do this when the time is right, not because one of them is afraid of being murdered or going to jail or something equally as terrible. He wants to get married because they both love each other and because they are in the right place to do so. Plus, married life wouldn’t probably change that much in their relationship, so I am fine either way. As long as they are happy, I am happy too.
The most unfortunate thing is yet to come: Annalise, after being again able to teach, ditched literally everyone. It really sucks this happened, because I love the team working together and being badass, kicking their enemies’ buts. On one hand I understand Annalise’s side of things: she blames herself for Wes’ death, and she realized this kind of tragedy happens around her, so she doesn’t want to be responsible for any other person’s life shattered. On the other, I also understand everyone else’s perspective: they have worked a lot for Annalise and the gratitude they get for all that is a recommendation letter after being “fired” for no reason. I think (and hope) we will see them all working together again not very far from now, but it is definitely not going to be fun seeing them apart while this doesn’t happen.
Lastly and as usual, How to Get Away with Murder introduced us to flash-forwards of 3 months later. We didn’t yet see much, but it is already possible to say that Annalise’s therapist is going to play a major role than he did in this episode. I don’t know why, but I don’t trust him, and I usually tend to trust people, so I don’t think I will be liking him very much. But there is something that left me confused: I read on an article the producer of the show saying that the big question this season is going to be “where”, and it was with this question the episode ended. Is the question “where is Laurel’s baby?” Maybe it could have died, and the question is a totally different “where” but it could also have been taken(?). I don’t know. Looks like we will have to wait and see.
Overall, this was a good start for the season. Could have been a bit better, but it was nice enough. I am giving it an 8.5/10.
The second episode will air next Thursday October 5th and it is entitled “I’m Not Her”, where I hope we will have a few more answers about the flash-forwards, so don’t miss my review.
