- Sam Vartholomeos as Danby Connor: Described as “a Starfleet through and through” by Vartholomeos, Danby is a junior officer in Starfleet Academy assigned to the Shenzhou.
- James Frain as Sarek: A younger version of Spock’s biological father and Michael’s stand-in father, previously portrayed by Mark Lenard.
- Shazad Latif as Ash Tyler: Described by Latif as “a very complex and painful and deep character.” Ash is a Starfleet lieutenant and former prisoner of war.
- Doug Jones as Saru: The first Kelpien (species created for the show) in the Starfleet, Saru is a lieutenant aboard the Discovery.
- Michelle Yeoh as Philippa Georgiou: Captain og the Shenzhou who maintains a close relationship with Michael.
